The timeless elegance of Porro design was chosen by Blank Design, the architectural design studio and furniture showroom led by architects Valeria Piras and Michele Morelli, to embellish the apartment created inside Palazzo Carmi in Parma, one of the most prestigious historic buildings in the city, subject to the constraints of the Superintendence and Architectural Heritage.
Divided into several apartments at the end of the 1990s, it was renovated to meet the needs of the client, a family of three, giving it a contemporary feel and integrating technologically innovative systems, yet taking into account and preserving the charm of the historic building.
The entrance leads to the reception room where the Frank armchairs designed by Piero Lissoni for Porro create a chromatic contrast with the black Marquina marble table thanks to the precious custom upholstery in light-toned silk velvet. The soft and enveloping shell-shaped backrest, the solid and sturdy metal legs that gain momentum thanks to the circular and variable section, and the padded seat with superior comfort bring a touch of déco to the room. In the background, functionality is the keyword in the two twin bookcases created using the Load-it system by Wolfgang Tolk for Porro with steel shelves and ivory lacquered panels, completed by custom-made containers and arranged on the sides of the original central fireplace, restored and brought back to its ancient splendor.
A double swing door leads to the dining room, directly connected to the kitchen, where the Materic table by Piero Lissoni takes center stage: a sculptural object that contrasts the absolute simplicity of the shape with the refinement of the materials and workmanship. Materic is made up of a circular and tapered top in Calacatta Oro marble, resting on a base composed of 12 solid natural ash boards joined together with a comb and turned to obtain a perfect truncated cone with marked grain. Conceived for daily family meals, it matches the light tones of the environment, contributing to the enchanting atmosphere of relaxation.
