Werner Aisslinger

Born in 1964, he studied design at University of Arts (Hochschule der Künste) of Berlin. From 1989 to 1992 freelanced at Jasper Morrison and Ron Arad in London, and Studio de Lucchi in Milan. In 1993 founded “Studio Aisslinger” in Berlin, focusing on product design, design concepts and brand architecture.1994-1997 Guest teacher at the Berlin University of Arts and Lahti Design Institute in Finland and in 1998 become design Professor at Design College (Hochschule für Gestaltung - Department of Product Design) in Karlsruhe. Aisslinger starts working with Porro in 1994 with Endless Shelf and Endless Plastic (1998).It is a modular bookcase with aluminium joints, units and shelves in wood or transparent coloured plastic.Aisslinger, thanks to Endless Shelf, gets three important awards: Compasso d’Oro Selection, Red Dot Award and Bundespreis Produktdesign.Endless Shelf is showed in the Neue Sammlung of Munich. Studio Aisslinger is the design and interior design studio founded in Berlin in 2004, that has also been represented in Singapore since 2008, focusing on spatial designs, ranging from cabins, new architectural concepts and product concepts, material innovations and culturally oriented visionary design. As a trendsetter in hospitality, retail and new work, Studio Aisslinger sets new standards with its visions for future work-life-ambiences. The work of studio aisslinger is reflected in a symbiosis of commercial of commercial requirements and free creativity in and award-winning large-scale projects as well as in design experiments and and installations that are shown in museums and exhibitions. Werner Aisslinger designs for brands like Vitra, Moroso, Dedon, Cappellini, HansGrohe, Kaldewei, Foscarini, Canon, Haier, Nomos or Wästberg and he delights in making use of the latest technologies. His work is exhibited in the permanent collections such as the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) and the Metropolitan Museum in New York, the French Fonds National d´Art Contemporain Paris, the Victoria & Albert Museum London, the Museum Neue Sammlung Munich and the Vitra Design Museum Collection in Weil, Germany. In 2013 Werner Aisslinger opened his first large Museum solo-show called “Home of the Future” in Berlin. In 2017 he opened his exhibition “House of Wonders“ in the Design Museum of the Pinakothek der Moderne in Munich. Among Studio Aisslingers interior architecture projects his hotels for the 25hours Hotel group and mall designs for the Central Group in Bangkok and New Work projects for Metropolis in San Francisco and are known for an innovative storytelling spatial conceptual approach. In 2024 he was called back by Porro to design Quilt, a fabric-covered metal bench designed to provide a convivial collective seat around the dining table or a waiting seat in workplaces and transit areas, hospitality and culture spaces, either alone or in series, creating linear and rigorous compositions. www.aisslinger.de
