19-20 March 2014
From March 19th to 20th, 2014, the creativity branded Front, the all-female Swedish designer trio, will be featured in Saint Petersburg for a special event organized by the Gallery of Design / Bulthaup Center: the city’s reference point for contemporary design and long-time Porro retailer.
Nearby the presentation of their most famous projects, created for the top brands in international furnishing, the event will include a meeting with the Russian press and a lecture open to architects, designers, students and professors of architecture and design, for two days devoted to their poetic and experimental design.
The store, impressively overlooking the port and characterized by its classic red-brick architecture, presents a series of the most celebrated products arising from the collaboration between Porro and Front, the three Swedish designers who have worked with the company since 2009, specializing in reconciling the brand’s formal simplicity with a design that is rich in splendor.
From 2010’s Shadow Light lamp, that projects a touch of magic and the enchanting atmospheres of Swedish nights, to 2011’s Inlay cupboard, which recovers inlay work techniques, the result of painstakingly alternating 4 different tones of oak that are interposed into a dark profile; next is 2010’s Balancing Boxes container table, comprised of a series of black-painted metal or red gum-finished wood boxes, unevenly overlapping each other, but nevertheless remaining in equilibrium.
In addition, 2010’s Mirror Table console with mirror, which appears as an open door to imaginary places; 2011’s Showcase Table in square and rectangular models, with a double top in which to store daily objects “under glass;” the Sundial clock from 2011, which stands out on a wall due to its candor and round shape; the Gentle chair from 2012, which reinterprets the archetype of the seat, modernizing its shapes and then purifying them.
A successful alliance, already rewarded at the 2012-13 Elle Deco International Design Awards (EDIDA) where it won the Best Seating category for the Gentle chair, confirmation of the ability of Porro and the Swedish designers to take high-quality workmanship and reinterpret it - in this case the chair was made from curved wood, brought up to date with a sprung back rest and two-tone, two-material effect.
A wealth of products that reveal the designers’ vision, the delicate feminine touch and the ability to imagine new uses for objects used in daily life, enclosed within a supersized room-scale version Mikado, the sideboard created in 2013 for Porro. A structure that is both curious and intriguing, it is comprised of a double lines of wooden slats inclined and staggered, allowing for a glimpse of the items inside in a wonderful game of “now you see me, now you don’t.”
