Porro takes part in the Wallpaper* Handmade exhibition, showing over 70 unique concepts and creations which have been created just for the UK lifestyle magazine that will held at the Brioni House in Via Gesu 2/a in Milan, during the Salone Fair.
Handmade brings together architects, designers, artists and manufacturers, all tasked by Wallpaper* with a creative brief for a unique bespoke product. This year, one of the elements of the show and issue is the 'Handmade Office'. Wallpaper has commissioned the architect David Kohn (http://www.davidkohn.co.uk/) to create a bespoke modular desk concept, designed to fit easily into a domestic space as well as a large office, where its modularity enables it to be configured in a variety of ways, entrusting its realization to Porro.
The result of this cooperation is Jerome, named after the famous painting of “St Jerome in his study” by Antonello da Messina. It is first and foremost a space-making device, for creating a smaller room within the office. The top half is optional and the desk can be arranged back-to-back and in rows to create a varied office Landscape. Its characteristics are the ash square section frame with carpentry joints, the desktop inlaid with linoleum, two drawers and the top timber space-frame, that can become a kind of shelf for things.
For Porro, this collaboration represents another occasion to show its ability in wood working and the capacity to follow a project in details, until the realization of a handmade product, with the further possibility to collaborate with one of the most interesting emerging studios: David Kohn was in fact named as Building Design magazine's Young Architect of the Year in 2009 and he has also won numerous other design awards. The studio is currently working with the artist Fiona Banner on the very high profile 'Room for London' project for 2012.
