2014 Novelties - Alessandro Mendini

All of the vitality and exuberance of their designer bursts forth, using many of the new wooden essences in Porro’s palette for a combination of coordinating colors: these are the two new inlaid Maggio and Schermo sideboards, designed by Alessandro Mendini.  For once, Porro forgets its usual minimalism and throws itself into the decoration exploration of wood; guided by the master, the par excellence interpreter of a playful approach, chromatic and irreverent in design. Two universes, seemingly poles apart meet, thanks to the shared passion for wood, in a volcanic mix that touches upon the two opposites of rationality and expressiveness.  Narrow and elongated, Maggio is an amusing chest of drawers crowned with a mirror, with a diamond-shaped section, 2 pullout trays and 6 large drawers. On the other hand, Schermo is a square cupboard on a base with a sloping hinged door. Both are created with an inlaid design on the front, achieved by combining three different types of wood – elm, oak and acacia – according to abstract geometric compositions that meld the points of the triangle with the curved contours of the circle in unexpected directions. With a maple interior, pliable brass, bronze and inox steel elements, and unexpected three-dimensionality in their profiles, Maggio and Schermo create a small series of exquisite and collectible furniture, between art and design.
