The “Time for Design” auction, in collaboration with Phillips, is a keypart of the Design Museum’s fundraising campaign for its new building that will open on November in Kensigton. A curated sale which shows the wonder of design in the 20th and 21st centuries with a range of works gathered from leading international designers, architects, fashion designers, artists and collectors.
Porro has decided to participate donating Maggio chest of drawers number 9 from the edition of 99, by Alessandro Mendini.
Narrow and elongated, Maggio is crowned with a mirror with a diamond-shaped section, 2 pull-out trays and 6 large drawers. It is created with an inlaid design on the front, achieved by combining 3 different types of wood – elm, oak and acacia – according to abstract geometric compositions that meld the points of the triangle with the oblique lines of the trapezoid in unexpected directions. With a maple interior, pliable brass and copper elements and the unexpected three-dimensionality in its profile, Maggio belongs to a small limited edition (99 pieces) series of exquisite and collectible furniture, between art and design.
